Who is a Winner?

Casa del Prado Theatre - Balboa Park
San Diego, California

There is no absolute winner and no absolute loser.  But there are relative winners and their     capacity to win grows and grows.  These are some general criteria.

They are people who are happy with who they are, at least sometimes.

They like to be alone and they like to be with other people.

They listen to other people and they decide for themselves.

They are capable of self-assertion rather than having a need for compliance, rebellion, or running away.

They enjoy sex, food, entertainment, work--without guilt and without making a claim on others for fulfillment.

They enjoy today and look forward to tomorrow.

They are capable of spontaneous feelings.

They can give and receive love.  They can tolerate the anger of others and get angry and they can forgive and forget.

They know who they are--in limits, in assets, in values, in likes and dislikes, and they are capable of enjoying individuality.

They can invest emotion and enthusiasm in people, causes and things.

They know the difference between real self-fulfillment and fleeting glory.

They care about this world and they appreciate their role and responsibility as part of it.
